How to Avoid Halloween Cavities

Posted .

Halloween is approaching fast, and though your little ghouls and ghosts may want to feast on the spoils of their trick-or-treating with abandon, this isn’t the best idea. To prevent cavities at this time of year, form a plan. This plan should protect your little monster’s teeth, but still allow him or her to enjoy the magic of Halloween.

Don’t Graze

In addition to dressing up like their favorite monster, princess, or superhero, Halloween involves candy. If you let your child graze on candy from sunup to sundown, his or her teeth will bathe in sugars that bacteria convert to cavity-causing acid. Instead of letting your child graze in this way, let your child have a short candy feast at night and make sure they brush their teeth before bed.

Brush Away the Remains

Don’t let your child forget to brush their teeth because of all of the excitement! Make sure that your ghouls and ghosts brush their teeth twice a day for at least two minutes.
